Three homesteads gutted down by fire at Mambane
AMID the high temperatures and strong winds in many parts of the country, three homesteads at Mambane were on Wednesday afternoon burnt down by raging wild fires.
The region has over the past few days been experiencing high temperatures, a condition which allows wild fires to travel at high speed. This is said to have been the case when the homesteads which are, however, situated in different communities caught fire.
Matsanjeni North Constituency Headman Boy Matsenjwa said the fire left some houses at the said homesteads reduced to ashes.
Matsenjwa said however, they were still investigating the incidents to ascertain what actually started the fire. He highlighted that the homesteads were burnt almost at the same time, adding that this was raising eyebrows when considering that they are not close to each other.
Matsenjwa reported that one of the affected families had food kept in one of the houses also reduced to ashes.
It is said residents made attempts to save the homesteads, but were overpowered by the fire. Matsenjwa appealed to organisations and members of the public to assist the affected families with food and clothing. Meanwhile, it is reported that incidents of wild fires have been on rise over the past few weeks in different areas.
