Gi­gaba given a week to ex­plain Myeni's re-ap­point­ment

JO­HAN­NES­BURG – The par­lia­men­tary stand­ing com­mit­tee on fi­nance has given Fi­nance Min­is­ter Malusi Gi­gaba seven days to pro­vide feed­back on the ex­ten­sion of Dudu Myeni's term as Chair­per­son of the South African Air­ways (SAA) board.

Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral of Fi­nance Dondo Mo­ga­jane told the com­mit­tee on Wed­nes­day that the con­tract would con­tinue un­til the air­line's an­nual gen­eral meet­ing in Novem­ber.

Chair­per­son of the com­mit­tee of fi­nance Yunus Car­rim said the com­mit­tee was con­cerned about the le­gal­ity of the ex­ten­sion of Myeni’s con­tract and there­fore be­lieved that the de­ci­sion must be re­viewed.

His com­mit­tee asked the min­is­ter to pro­vide it with all the doc­u­ments and ev­i­dence re­lat­ing to the ex­ten­sion of Myeni's term of of­fice, in­clud­ing proof of com­pli­ance with the pro­vi­sion of the Com­pany’s Act.

“The com­mit­tee re­quests that the min­is­ter re­sponds to the com­mit­tee within seven days of re­ceipt of this res­o­lu­tion,” Car­rim said. eNCA
