Liquor out­lets pose se­ri­ous chal­lenge to Mu­nic­i­pal­ity

THE liquor out­lets which are all over the city are a se­ri­ous chal­lenge not only for the res­i­dents of Manzini but also for the mu­nic­i­pal­ity.

Dur­ing yes­ter­day’s meet­ing, ratepay­ers reg­is­tered their con­cerns about the liquor out­lets that are all over the place. The ratepay­ers said they hardly sleep ow­ing to the noise from the out­lets. In response, Manzini City Plan­ner Simphiwe Malaza said liquor out­lets pose a se­ri­ous chal­lenge. He stated that when they is­sue out­lets with per­mits, they do it with a spe­cial con­sent and they reach an agree­ment with that per­son who is get­ting the li­cence that she/he abides by the con­di­tions given. Malaza said, how­ever, the prob­lem is that once peo­ple get the per­mits and start op­er­at­ing they vi­o­late the con­di­tions given to them.

Malaza stated that as Coun­cil they have set up a spe­cial com­mit­tee that will in­ves­ti­gate the mat­ter.

He said there are peo­ple who go around th­ese bars and tav­erns in dis­guise and col­lect in­for­ma­tion about what hap­pens.
