Rob­bery sus­pects granted E10 000 bail

TWO men who are fac­ing charges of armed rob­bery have each been granted bail fixed at E5 000.

Lucky Thulani Dube (25) of Gege and Mongi Dlamini (29) of Mbekel­weni ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Si­fiso Vi­lakati after be­ing ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the armed rob­bery that took place at Them­be­lihle on Septem­ber 15.

It is al­leged they acted jointly and in a fur­ther­ance of a com­mon pur­pose wherein they wrong­fully, un­law­fully and with in­tent to in­duce sub­mis­sion to the tak­ing of items val­ued at E16 450, threat­ened Bheki Sha­bangu that un­less he con­sented to the tak­ing of the items and re­frain from any re­sis­tance, they would shoot him with the gun they were al­legedly car­ry­ing.

The stolen items in­cluded a lap­top val­ued at E6 000, a J2 Sam­sung cell­phone val­ued at E3 000, sneak­ers val­ued at E2 500, a flash drive, a gold wed­ding ring val­ued at E4 500 and money in cash amount­ing to E300.

When they made their ap­pear­ance in court, they were rep­re­sented by Non­cedo Nd­langa­mandla of Ma­bila At­tor­neys in as­so­ci­a­tion with N. Nd­langa­mandla and S. Jele. She told the court that the sus­pects were in­no­cent un­til proven guilty.

She fur­ther asked the court not to ap­ply Sec­tion 102 of the Crim­i­nal and Pro­ce­dure which states that ac­cused per­sons should be granted bail that is half the amount of the stolen items. She as­sured the court that the sus­pects will not evade trial as they were in­no­cent, and fur­ther sug­gested to the court to hand out strict bail con­di­tions to mon­i­tor their move­ments. The court granted them E5 000 bail each and fur­ther warned them to ap­pear be­fore court to­day.
