Mbabane Swallows ………… (0)0 Tambuti …………………… ... (0)0 Swallows won 4-2
SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows Under-20 have booked their place in the 2018 SwaziBank Cup final following their 4-2 victory over Tambuti FC.
The 2015 champions had to wait until the penalty shootouts to set a date with Young Buffaloes in this year's edition of the junior knockout edition. The Lwazi Simelane-led side netted four of their shootouts which were converted by their goalkeeper Qiniso Nyawo, Mthunzi Dlamini, Njabulo Mnisi and Mawaza Dlamini.
The agile shot-stopper Qiniso also saved the first kick of the opposition, flicking out a shot by Tambuti’s Colani Matsenjwa.
The Lubombo based side further missed their last spot kick through Colani Matsenjwa, who fired wide.
Tambuti only netted two of their spot kicks through Mlungisi Gumedze and Solomon Shongwe.
Both teams could not offer anything much throughout the 90minutes of grueling football.
The teams failed to create meaningful chances, forcing the contest to be decided in the lottery shootout where Swallows emerged victorious.
Swallows coach Lwazi Simelane said they were happy they were through to the finals of the knockout tournament.
“This was a tough match and I am pleased we were able to proceed to the finals. We could not play our normal passing game as the opposition frustrated us with their physical approach,” he said. Simelane further said they would now prepare for the finals against Young Buffaloes.
"We will properly plan for Buffaloes, who are also a strong side. We will continue to work hard as we want to go all the way and win the title.”
Meanwhile, his Tambuti counterpart Ishmael Zwane said they played well despite the loss. "We tried our best as we applied ourselves throughout the match but it was not to be.We were just unlucky to lose in the penalty shootout,” he said.
