“What are some great jobs that don’t rely on the in­ter­net?” reads a question posted on the pop­u­lar Q&A site, Quora. User Wee Cheng Er sug­gests vet­eran of the armed forces, trans­la­tor, vet­eri­nar­ian, barista, body­guard for the wealthy, nanny, chef, tour guide and life­guard.

Our knowl­edge be­comes out­dated at a rel­a­tively fast rate, par­tic­u­larly when it is highly spe­cial­ized. Only about half of the gen­eral ma­te­rial taught at school re­mains rel­e­vant af­ter 20 years, while half of highly spe­cific IT knowl­edge is al­ready ob­so­lete af­ter two years. These are the re­sults of a study con­ducted by J. Braun (1996) – a study which is prob­a­bly al­ready out­dated it­self.
