This unique two-storey home sits peacefully on the edge of Warrens Cross Lake in The Lakes by Yoo, a private complex set among 650 acres of idyllic Cotswold countryside. Surrounded by trees on three sides, the face of the lodge overlooks the lake, with the large front terrace hovering over the water. “As nature is losing out in urbanised areas, access to a natural element such as a lake from home is an ultimate luxury,” says Slimane Ouahes, director of Hong Kong-based architecture and interior design firm, Ova Studio. “Homes were originally created to protect ourselves against wild natural elements, but in doing so, we also cut ourselves [off ] from the beautiful ones. The right balance is hard to find.”

The 2,734 sqft property blends a pared-down design aesthetic with reverence for the great outdoors, with giant windows and sliding doors showcasing the view of nature, and the straight lines mirroring the flat plane of the lake. Large, simply styled and light-filled rooms match the outside sense of openness, while the quality finishes, which have a rustic, country style, give an approachable atmosphere to the house. The retreat has been built from sustainable timber that will mellow and silver with age, adding to its seamless fit into the natural surroundings.

The lodge has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and an open plan kitchen and dining room, which leads through to a sitting room with study area. The impressive downstairs entertaining space opens on to the terrace outside.
