The word ikat means “to tie” in Indonesian, and creating fabrics in ikat involves a process of dyeing and weaving so complex that in the 18th and 19th centuries, the fabrics were a sign of wealth, seen adorning the bodies and homes of European and Indian royalty. This year, Hermès pays homage to the craftsmanship of this beautiful pattern with Voyage en Ikat, a dinner-service collection that sees the age-old technique applied to porcelain. Voyage en Ikat comes in shades of emerald, sapphire and ruby, finished with touches of 24-karat gold.
