Acer CEO Ja­son Chen joins char­ity US bike ride ‘Heart Across Amer­ica’

Acer Inc. ( ) CEO Ja­son Chen ( ) has joined Sean Maloney, a for­mer In­tel Corp. ex­ec­u­tive, on an in­au­gu­ral bi­cy­cle ride across Amer­ica for stroke and heart dis­ease aware­ness.

Heart Across Amer­ica, ini­ti­ated by Maloney, is a 5,000-mile ride from Palo Alto, Cal­i­for­nia to New York City to raise aware­ness and pre­ven­tion of car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­ease, the world’s num­ber one cause of death.

Chen joined Maloney and his bike team Thurs­day on one of the legs in South­ern Cal­i­for­nia, the Tai­wanese PC maker said in a state­ment.

“I truly ad­mire Sean for his de­ter­mi­na­tion to re­cover af­ter his de­bil­i­tat­ing stroke, as well as his drive to in­form oth­ers about preven­ta­tive mea­sures,” Chen said of the for­mer In­tel ex­ec­u­tive vice pres­i­dent, who suf­fered a stroke in Fe­bru­ary 2010 and re­tired in Jan­uary 2013.

“On be­half of Acer, I am pleased to join him on this inspiring quest to en­cour­age peo­ple to lead health­ier lives and get es­sen­tial screen­ing to help de­tect early signs of strokes and heart dis­ease,” Chen said in the state­ment.

Heart Across Amer­ica kicked off March 22, with the fi­nal stretch sched­uled for June 15. Dona­tions raised from the mission will go to­ward the Amer­i­can Heart As­so­ci­a­tion
