Car’s sudden acceleration results in double fatalities
A sedan’s sudden acceleration resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries last night in New Taipei City’s Zhonghe District.
The city’s Fire Department received a call at 6:30 p.m. A red sedan appeared to have surged forward without prior warning, hitting motorcycles slowing in the front. Two victims showed no signs of life at the scene.
The accident happened at the intersection of Zhongzheng Rd. and Jinhe Rd., creating a chaos at the scene. At least five motorcycles were embroiled in the accident. As of press time, a total of seven people were affected.
A male in his 40s and another in his 50s had no breath or pulse. They were sent to Taipei Medical University — Shuang Ho Hospital and Tzu Chi General Hospital in Xindian, respectively.
A 48-year-old female suffered scratches to her body; a 45-yearold female had sore limbs; and a 47-year-old male suffered from light injuries. There were all sent to the Shuang Ho Hospital. A man in his 50s reportedly refused hospital treatment.
The fatal accident resulted in a traffic jam on Freeway No. 3’s Zhonghe interchange. The police are looking into the exact cause of the accident.
