Car’s sud­den ac­cel­er­a­tion re­sults in dou­ble fa­tal­i­ties

A sedan’s sud­den ac­cel­er­a­tion re­sulted in two deaths and mul­ti­ple in­juries last night in New Taipei City’s Zhonghe Dis­trict.

The city’s Fire Depart­ment re­ceived a call at 6:30 p.m. A red sedan ap­peared to have surged for­ward with­out prior warn­ing, hit­ting mo­tor­cy­cles slow­ing in the front. Two vic­tims showed no signs of life at the scene.

The ac­ci­dent hap­pened at the in­ter­sec­tion of Zhongzheng Rd. and Jinhe Rd., cre­at­ing a chaos at the scene. At least five mo­tor­cy­cles were em­broiled in the ac­ci­dent. As of press time, a to­tal of seven peo­ple were af­fected.

A male in his 40s and an­other in his 50s had no breath or pulse. They were sent to Taipei Med­i­cal Uni­ver­sity — Shuang Ho Hos­pi­tal and Tzu Chi Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal in Xin­dian, re­spec­tively.

A 48-year-old fe­male suf­fered scratches to her body; a 45-yearold fe­male had sore limbs; and a 47-year-old male suf­fered from light in­juries. There were all sent to the Shuang Ho Hos­pi­tal. A man in his 50s re­port­edly re­fused hos­pi­tal treat­ment.

The fa­tal ac­ci­dent re­sulted in a traf­fic jam on Free­way No. 3’s Zhonghe in­ter­change. The po­lice are look­ing into the ex­act cause of the ac­ci­dent.
