Chinese tourists injured as buses collide in Alishan
Six people suffered minor injuries when two tour buses carrying Chinese visitors and a truck were involved in an accident in the mountainous Alishan resort area in Southern Taiwan on Monday afternoon.
The collision occurred at around 2:39 p.m. on the Alishan Highway near the Chukou Visitor and Administration Center in Chiayi County when one tour bus rear ended the other bus, sending it into the back of the truck in front of it.
Local police said it was not clear whether or not mountain rains and slippery roads caused the accident, and further investigation was needed to determine the cause of the crash.
The injured passengers were sent to the hospital for treatment. Most of them sustained bruises to their limbs, according to the Chiayi County fire department.
The two buses were carrying Chinese travelers from Shanxi and Jiangsu provinces, respectively, with both groups in Taiwan on eight-day tours, the Tourism Bureau said.
