4.2-mag­ni­tude earth­quake shakes east part of Tai­wan

A mag­ni­tude 4.2 earth­quake jolted eastern Tai­wan at 3:19 p.m. on Wed­nes­day, but there were no re­ports of dam­age, ac­cord­ing to the Cen­tral Weather Bureau.

The earth­quake was cen­tered 41.4 kilo­me­ters north­west of Taitung County’s gov­ern­ment of­fices and struck at a depth of 12.7 kilo­me­ters, the bureau’s Seis­mol­ogy Cen­ter said.

The strong­est jolts, which reg­is­tered a “3” on Tai­wan’s 1-7 in­ten­sity scale, was felt in the small Taitung County moun­tain vil­lage of Li­dao and Taoyuan Dis­trict in the Kaoh­si­ung area.
