A high school teacher in Taichung is persisting with his journey of coming to terms with his lifelong dream to become a woman with the support of his students and over the objections of his mother.

Tseng Kai-hsin, who has taught physics at National Taichung Senior High School for more than 20 years, is slated to complete his sex change operation in July.

The 51- year- old Tseng said Wednesday he has always felt he was a woman trapped in a man’s body and had thought about un- dergoing a sex change operation since he was in junior high school.

Those urges, however, were firmly suppressed deep in his heart, he said, and he never revealed his desire to become a woman to anyone, apart from a close female confidante during his college days.

At the age of 43, he married a music teacher whom he met online, but their loving relationship ended at the end of 2013, when his wife died of cancer.

Tseng said he regretted never revealing his secret to his wife.

“My wife used to said that

I must have been a ‘pretty girl’ in my previous life,” he said, adding that they had planned to have children.

“When my wife died, I no longer felt the need to hide the woman in my heart and resolved to live my life as my true self, as a woman,” he said.

Tseng said he has begun his transformation over the past year by adopting more womanly mannerisms and by dressing more endogenously and then more femininely. His change soon drew the attention of students and school administrators.
