KMT to name pres­i­den­tial can­di­date mid-June: of­fi­cial

The rul­ing Kuom­intang (KMT) has set in mo­tion a process to se­lect its 2016 pres­i­den­tial can­di­date and will an­nounce him or her by mid-June, KMT spokesman Yang Wei-chung said Wed­nes­day.

Ear­lier in the day, the party’s Cen­tral Stand­ing Com­mit­tee ap­proved a timetable and a set of guide­lines for the pres­i­den­tial can­di­date nom­i­na­tion process, Yang said.

Ac­cord­ing to the guide­lines, nom­i­na­tion and en­dorse­ment forms will be avail­able April 20-May 15, while ap­pli­ca­tions for nom­i­nee reg­is­tra­tion can be filed May 17 and 18, Yang said.

He said the re­view and ap­proval of ap­pli­ca­tions will be con­ducted on May 19-24, fol­lowed by an opin­ion poll on June 5-13.

The names of the two can­di­dates se­lected to run on the KMT ticket for pres­i­dent and vice pres­i­dent will be an­nounced pub­licly on June 14, and will be sub­mit­ted to the party’s Na­tional Congress for ap­proval by midJuly, Yang said.
