KMT to name presidential candidate mid-June: official
The ruling Kuomintang (KMT) has set in motion a process to select its 2016 presidential candidate and will announce him or her by mid-June, KMT spokesman Yang Wei-chung said Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the party’s Central Standing Committee approved a timetable and a set of guidelines for the presidential candidate nomination process, Yang said.
According to the guidelines, nomination and endorsement forms will be available April 20-May 15, while applications for nominee registration can be filed May 17 and 18, Yang said.
He said the review and approval of applications will be conducted on May 19-24, followed by an opinion poll on June 5-13.
The names of the two candidates selected to run on the KMT ticket for president and vice president will be announced publicly on June 14, and will be submitted to the party’s National Congress for approval by midJuly, Yang said.
