‘The Fierce Wife’ to air in Latin America
Award-winning Taiwanese TV drama “The Fierce Wife” (
) will soon be aired in Latin American countries with Spanish voiceovers and subtitles to show Taiwan’s soft power to the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced yesterday.
Speaking during a press conference to announce the plan, Vice Foreign Minister Vanessa Shih (
) said the project is a collab- orative effort between the ministry and local Sanlih E-Television station ( ), the producer of the TV series.
The TV series that was first aired in Taiwan at 2010 was chosen by the ministry following a strict screening process and it will be the first Taiwanese TV series to be aired in Latin America, Shih said.
It is part of the ministry’s ongoing project to promote Taiwanese culture and soft power to the region where most of the R.O.C.’s diplomatic allies are situated, she added.
Following years of preparations to post-produce the series and added Spanish subtitles and Spanish voiceovers, Shih said the TV drama will soon be aired on 10 TV networks in eight Latin American countries in the following months.
The eight countries are Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Paraguay, Chile, Ecuador and Argentina.
Shih noted that the TV series reflects Taiwan’s multicultural society, adding that the ministry hopes the introduction of the series to the region can help Spanish-speaking society better understand Taiwan.
One of the most popular TV series in recent Taiwan TV history, the TV drama starred Sonia Sui (
), Wen Sheng-hao ( ), Chris Wang ( ) and Amanda Zhu (
). It has also previously been aired overseas in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The main storyline is about how a housewife deals with her husband’s extramarital affairs.
