Asustek aiming for 50 percent of Taiwan gaming notebook market
Taiwan’s Asustek Computer Inc. ( ) unveiled three new gaming notebook computers on its home turf Monday, aiming at a market share of over 50 percent.
The company sold around 3,000 to 4,000 gaming notebooks per month in Taiwan last year, an increase of 5-8 percent from the 2013 figure, said Sally Chen , a senior product manager at Asustek.
The sales figures boosted Asustek’s local market share of gaming notebooks to the dominant 43 percent in 2014, Chen told reporters at the launch of Asustek’s new G series gaming laptops.
Asustek’s 2015 market share target of over 50 percent is backed by its initiative of launching its X series gaming notebooks in the second half of last year, which has expanded the company’s reach to the mainstream gaming notebook market, according to Chen.
The X series notebooks, which start from NT$28,900 (US$925), are estimated to make up 30-40 percent of Asustek’s total gaming notebooks in 2015, with the remaining 60-70 percent coming from the higher-end G series models, she said.
