Asustek aim­ing for 50 per­cent of Tai­wan gam­ing note­book mar­ket

Tai­wan’s Asustek Com­puter Inc. ( ) un­veiled three new gam­ing note­book com­put­ers on its home turf Mon­day, aim­ing at a mar­ket share of over 50 per­cent.

The com­pany sold around 3,000 to 4,000 gam­ing note­books per month in Tai­wan last year, an in­crease of 5-8 per­cent from the 2013 fig­ure, said Sally Chen , a se­nior prod­uct manager at Asustek.

The sales fig­ures boosted Asustek’s lo­cal mar­ket share of gam­ing note­books to the dom­i­nant 43 per­cent in 2014, Chen told re­porters at the launch of Asustek’s new G se­ries gam­ing lap­tops.

Asustek’s 2015 mar­ket share tar­get of over 50 per­cent is backed by its ini­tia­tive of launch­ing its X se­ries gam­ing note­books in the sec­ond half of last year, which has ex­panded the com­pany’s reach to the main­stream gam­ing note­book mar­ket, ac­cord­ing to Chen.

The X se­ries note­books, which start from NT$28,900 (US$925), are es­ti­mated to make up 30-40 per­cent of Asustek’s to­tal gam­ing note­books in 2015, with the re­main­ing 60-70 per­cent com­ing from the higher-end G se­ries mod­els, she said.
