Trout, An­gels wrap up se­ries with 10-2 win at Texas

Mike Trout had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run to back an­other win in Texas for Hec­tor San­ti­ago as the Los An­ge­les An­gels beat the Rangers 10-2 in a se­ries fi­nale Wed­nes­day.

San­ti­ago (1-1) al­lowed one run and four hits over seven innings, im­prov­ing to 4-0 with a 2.15 ERA in five ca­reer starts at Texas.

Los An­ge­les scored six runs in the sec­ond off An­thony Ranaudo (0-1), who made his Texas de­but while start­ing in place of in­jured Derek Hol­land.

Al­bert Pu­jols had a pair of RBI sin­gles and David Freese added a two-run sin­gle for the An­gels.

Kansas City be­came the last team in the ma­jors to lose this sea­son as Kyle Gibson pitched into the sev­enth in­ning and Oswaldo Ar­cia hit a two-run homer to lead the Min­nesota Twins to a 3-1 victory over the Roy­als.

The Roy­als (7-1) were chas­ing the 2003 team’s 9-0 start as the best in fran­chise his­tory, but Gibson (1-1) used 12 ground­ball outs and three strike­outs to keep the high­est-scor­ing team in the ma­jors quiet for a night.

Detroit’s Al­fredo Simon gave up two hits over eight dom­i­nant innings as the Tigers beat the Pitts­burgh Pi­rates 1-0.

Ra­jai Davis hit a lead­off homer in the sixth against Fran­cisco Liri­ano (0-1) as Detroit shut out Pitts­burgh for the sec­ond straight day. Joakim So­ria worked a per­fect ninth for his fourth save while fill­ing in for in­jured Joe Nathan.

In Los An­ge­les, Brett An­der­son posted his first victory with the Dodgers and Scott Van Slyke hit a two-run dou­ble as the two-time de­fend­ing NL West cham­pion Dodgers com­pleted a three-game sweep of the Seat­tle Mariners 5-2.

An­der­son (1-0) al­lowed two runs — one earned — and six hits over five innings and struck out three in the an­nual Civil Rights Game, which in­cluded a pregame cer­e­mony cel­e­brat­ing the 68th an­niver­sary of Jackie Robin­son’s ma­jor league de­but.

Seat­tle’s Nel­son Cruz ex­tended his home run streak to a ca­reer-best five straight games.

The Wash­ing­ton Na­tion­als trounced the Bos­ton Red Sox 10-5 af­ter Wil­son Ramos hit a three-run dou­ble and Ian Des­mond slammed a solo homer dur­ing a six-run third in­ning.

Dan Haren (1-0) gave up three hits in seven innings and Adeiny Hechavar­ria went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs as the Miami Mar­lins won con­sec­u­tive games for the first time this sea­son af­ter de­feat­ing the At­lanta Braves 6-2, while the St. Louis Car­di­nals downed the Mil­wau­kee Brew­ers 4-2.

In other games, Trevor Bauer (2-0) won con­sec­u­tive starts for the first time in his three-plus sea­sons in the ma­jor leagues to help the Cleve­land In­di­ans beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2, the Bal­ti­more Ori­oles downed the New York Yan­kees 7-5, the Toronto Blue Jays thumped the Tampa Bay Rays 12-7 and the Hous­ton Astros had a 6-1 victory over the Oak­land Ath­let­ics.

Justin Up­ton home­red with two outs in the eighth in­ning to give the San Diego Padres a 3-2 victory over the Ari­zona Di­a­mond­backs, the Chicago Cubs blanked the Cincin­nati Reds 5-0, the New York Mets de­feated the Philadel­phia Phillies 6-1 and the Colorado Rock­ies were 4-2 win­ners over the San Fran­cisco Gi­ants.
