Ex-deputy en­voy to US to be MOFA spokes­woman

Tai­wan’s for­mer deputy rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the United States has been named spokes­woman for the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs, min­istry of­fi­cials said Thurs­day.

Eleanor Wang ( ) who re­turned to Tai­wan ear­lier this month af­ter a six-year post­ing in the United States, will suc­ceed Anna Kao ( ) as the min­istry’s spokes­woman.

Wang’s per­for­mance in Wash­ing­ton, D.C. re­ceived high recog­ni­tion from Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the U.S. Shen Lyushun (

), who pro­moted her from chief of the po­lit­i­cal sec­tion at the Taipei Eco­nomic and Cul­tural Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Of­fice in the U.S. to deputy rep­re­sen­ta­tive last year, a diplo­matic source said.

In ad­di­tion to two over­seas post­ings — in Wash­ing­ton and New York — Wang has worked at the min­istry’s Depart­ment of North Amer­i­can Af­fairs and the Depart­ment of East Asian and Pa­cific Af­fairs.
