Spe­cial Cloud Gate Dance Theater metro train makes its maiden trip

A spe­cial Cloud Gate Dance Theater ( ) Metro train made its de­but yes­ter­day af­ter­noon, fea­tur­ing Cloud Gate images on the ex­te­rior and in­te­rior of the train, cel­e­brat­ing the grand open­ing of the group’s new head­quar­ters in Tam­sui.

The Cloud Gate Ex­press Project was launched by the Taipei City Depart­ment of Cul­tural Af­fairs (DCA, ), in co­op­er­a­tion with Cloud Gate. The Cloud Gate train de­parted Zhongyi Metro Sta­tion ( ) for Tam­sui Metro Sta­tion ( ) yes­ter­day and will run daily for four months, with eight jour­neys per day at ap­prox­i­mately two hours per jour­ney.

Ac­cord­ing to the DCA, the Cloud Gate Ex­press Project was car­ried out af­ter two months of dis­cus­sions. One side of the ex­te­rior is painted with images of Cloud Gate’s work “Wa­ter Stains on the Wall” ( ), with large ar­eas left blank, cre­at­ing a si­lent and sta­ble at­mos­phere. On the other side, Cloud Gate 2’s (

2) dance project “Tan­talus” was cho­sen to be the main fea­ture, dis­play­ing en­er­getic and lively images of the dancers.

Taipei City Deputy Mayor Chou Li-fang ( ), Cloud Gate Dance Theater founder Lin Hwai-min ( ), Direc­tor of the DCA Ni Chong-hua ( ) and Taipei Rapid Tran­sit Cor­po­ra­tion (TRTC,

) Chair­man Ho Chen­tan ( ) were present at the in­au­gu­ra­tion press con­fer­ence yes­ter­day.

On be­half of Cloud Gate, Lin ex­pressed his thanks to the Taipei City Gov­ern­ment at the press con­fer­ence and also said he hopes the Cloud Gate Ex­press may bring some hap­pi­ness and imag­i­na­tion to the com­muters. “Set­tling in Tam­sui is not an end, but a start of all things,” said Lin, while invit­ing peo­ple to Tam­sui for its scenery and now art per­for­mances.

Cloud Gate 2’s “Spring Riot 2015” ( 2015) will be the open­ing per­for­mance for Cloud Gate’s new head­quar­ters. Ac­cord­ing to the DCA, free shut­tle buses will run be­tween Tam­sui Metro Sta­tion and the Cloud Gate head­quar­ters each night of per­for­mance. Au­di­ences may reg­is­ter for the shut­tle bus on­line.
