Special Cloud Gate Dance Theater metro train makes its maiden trip
A special Cloud Gate Dance Theater ( ) Metro train made its debut yesterday afternoon, featuring Cloud Gate images on the exterior and interior of the train, celebrating the grand opening of the group’s new headquarters in Tamsui.
The Cloud Gate Express Project was launched by the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA, ), in cooperation with Cloud Gate. The Cloud Gate train departed Zhongyi Metro Station ( ) for Tamsui Metro Station ( ) yesterday and will run daily for four months, with eight journeys per day at approximately two hours per journey.
According to the DCA, the Cloud Gate Express Project was carried out after two months of discussions. One side of the exterior is painted with images of Cloud Gate’s work “Water Stains on the Wall” ( ), with large areas left blank, creating a silent and stable atmosphere. On the other side, Cloud Gate 2’s (
2) dance project “Tantalus” was chosen to be the main feature, displaying energetic and lively images of the dancers.
Taipei City Deputy Mayor Chou Li-fang ( ), Cloud Gate Dance Theater founder Lin Hwai-min ( ), Director of the DCA Ni Chong-hua ( ) and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC,
) Chairman Ho Chentan ( ) were present at the inauguration press conference yesterday.
On behalf of Cloud Gate, Lin expressed his thanks to the Taipei City Government at the press conference and also said he hopes the Cloud Gate Express may bring some happiness and imagination to the commuters. “Settling in Tamsui is not an end, but a start of all things,” said Lin, while inviting people to Tamsui for its scenery and now art performances.
Cloud Gate 2’s “Spring Riot 2015” ( 2015) will be the opening performance for Cloud Gate’s new headquarters. According to the DCA, free shuttle buses will run between Tamsui Metro Station and the Cloud Gate headquarters each night of performance. Audiences may register for the shuttle bus online.
