A man in Changhua County was indicted Monday on charges of stealing a parrot that flew onto his property last August.

The bird, a 16-month old tropical macaw, was captured and sold on Aug. 28 last year to a woman surnamed Liao after it flew into the man’s pigeons’ cage, Changhua District Prosecutors Office said.

Prosecutors indicted the 52-year-old man, surnamed Wang, and also Liao.

The macaw, which belonged to a woman surnamed Hsieh, disappeared earlier in August 2014 and ended up flying into Wang’s pigeon cage on Aug. 28 according to the indictment.

That same day, Wang sold the parrot for NT$43,000 to Liao through a friend who specializes in parrot propagation and sales, prosecutors said.

They said Hsieh spotted her macaw in pictures on Liao’s Facebook page on Sept. 1, 2014 and reported the matter to the police, who subsequently questioned Wang and referred the case to prosecutors.
