Shares close down 0.16% to 9,956.83
Taiwan shares closed down 16.29 points, or 0.16 percent, at 9,956.83 Tuesday on turnover of NT$116.64 billion ( US$3.83 billion).
The Taiwan stock exchange benchmark weighted index, the TAIEX, opened at 10,004.65 points with a continuation of Monday’s strong buying that had pushed the index past the 10.000-point mark for the first time in 15 years.
The index fluctuated between 10,014.28 and 9,918.01 before finishing at 9.956.83 points, dragged down slightly by weakening Apple concept stocks.
The bellwether Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. ( ) and Largan Precision Co. ( ) led a drop in technology stocks, including casing maker Catcher Technology Co. ( ) and iPhone assembler Pegatron Corp. ( ).
But financial stocks, which rose 0.8 percent, helped prevent the benchmark index from sliding further during Tuesday’s trade.
US Dollar Closes Down on Taipei Forex at NT$30.831
The U.S. dollar fell against the New Taiwan dollar on Tuesday, shedding NT$ 0.030 to close NT$30.831.
