Shares close down 0.16% to 9,956.83

Tai­wan shares closed down 16.29 points, or 0.16 per­cent, at 9,956.83 Tues­day on turnover of NT$116.64 bil­lion ( US$3.83 bil­lion).

The Tai­wan stock ex­change bench­mark weighted in­dex, the TAIEX, opened at 10,004.65 points with a con­tin­u­a­tion of Mon­day’s strong buy­ing that had pushed the in­dex past the 10.000-point mark for the first time in 15 years.

The in­dex fluc­tu­ated be­tween 10,014.28 and 9,918.01 be­fore fin­ish­ing at 9.956.83 points, dragged down slightly by weak­en­ing Ap­ple con­cept stocks.

The bell­wether Hon Hai Pre­ci­sion In­dus­try Co. ( ) and Lar­gan Pre­ci­sion Co. ( ) led a drop in tech­nol­ogy stocks, in­clud­ing cas­ing maker Catcher Tech­nol­ogy Co. ( ) and iPhone as­sem­bler Pe­ga­tron Corp. ( ).

But fi­nan­cial stocks, which rose 0.8 per­cent, helped pre­vent the bench­mark in­dex from slid­ing fur­ther dur­ing Tues­day’s trade.

US Dollar Closes Down on Taipei Forex at NT$30.831

The U.S. dollar fell against the New Tai­wan dollar on Tues­day, shed­ding NT$ 0.030 to close NT$30.831.
