Po­lice crack down on Line scam in Taitung County

Taitung County po­lice said yes­ter­day that they have cracked down on a scam in which fraud­sters used LINE and Face­book to post images of mer­chan­dise and swin­dle po­ten­tial buy­ers out of NT$2 mil­lion.

Po­lice have ar­rested 19 sus­pects who have al­legedly used Face­book and LINE to join groups and post mer­chan­dise for sale since last Oc­to­ber.

The sus­pected leader, sur­named Lee, is ac­cused of fail­ing to ship the prod­ucts af­ter pay­ments went through, the Taitung County Po­lice Bureau said.

Lee and his ac­com­plices al­legedly used nu­mer­ous fake ac­counts on Face­book un­der false iden­ti­ties, and used a LINE ac­count un­der the name Matt Lee to join Line groups, the deputy com­man­der of the po­lice bureau said.

In the groups, they mainly sold auto parts, tor­toises, par­rots, 3C prod­ucts, wine, anime mod­els, Iron Man mod­els and tick­ets for events like Jody Chi­ang ( ) con­certs.
