Police crack down on Line scam in Taitung County
Taitung County police said yesterday that they have cracked down on a scam in which fraudsters used LINE and Facebook to post images of merchandise and swindle potential buyers out of NT$2 million.
Police have arrested 19 suspects who have allegedly used Facebook and LINE to join groups and post merchandise for sale since last October.
The suspected leader, surnamed Lee, is accused of failing to ship the products after payments went through, the Taitung County Police Bureau said.
Lee and his accomplices allegedly used numerous fake accounts on Facebook under false identities, and used a LINE account under the name Matt Lee to join Line groups, the deputy commander of the police bureau said.
In the groups, they mainly sold auto parts, tortoises, parrots, 3C products, wine, anime models, Iron Man models and tickets for events like Jody Chiang ( ) concerts.
