Ap­ple to col­lab­o­rate with Hon Hai over data cen­ter

Ap­ple Inc. will work with Fox­conn Tech­nol­ogy Group — known as Hon Hai Group in Tai­wan — to pro­mote its Asia - Pa­cific data cen­ter lo­cated in China’s Guizhou Prov­ince, Chi­nese me­dia re­ported Thurs­day.

Lisa Jack­son, Ap­ple’s vice pres­i­dent of en­vi­ron­men­tal ini­tia­tives, said the com­pany at­taches great im­por­tance to big data in­dus­try, with em­pha­sis on data se­cu­rity and the val­ues of data min­ing con­cepts.

Fox­conn has built what is de­scribed as a green tun­nel­like data cen­ter in Guiyang, south­west­ern China. The de­sign cri­te­ria for the fa­cil­ity is based on min­i­miz­ing en­ergy con­sump­tion.

In July 2014, Fox­conn an­nounced the sign­ing of five deals with Guizhou to de­velop big data and nan­otech­nol­ogy.

Fox­conn also holds a 21.5-per­cent share in the Global Big Data Ex­change, the first big data ex­change op­er­a­tion in China.
