Many days of severe heat forecast for Taipei in 2015
Temperatures in the Greater Taipei area will rise to 35 degrees Celsius or higher at least 38 days this year, Weather Risk has predicted.
The company said Thursday that the plum rain season has ended early and a mediumstrength El Nino that has formed is likely to last until the start of winter.
As a result, strong subtropical high pressure conditions will prevail this summer, causing extreme heat, the company said.
Due to the heat island effect, the greater Taipei area can expect about 38 to 48 days of temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and over, higher than the average of 24 days per year, the company forecast.
Last year, however, there were 61 days when those temperatures in Taipei reached those levels, it said.
