Kin­men aims to be­come eco­nomic pi­lot zone

Kin­men County Mag­is­trate Chen Fu-hai ( ) said Sun­day he will spare no ef­fort to strive for sup­port for Kin­men to be­come a pi­lot zone for trade and eco­nomic co­op­er­a­tion be­tween the two sides of Tai­wan Strait.

Chen spelled out the pledge at a cross-strait fo­rum in Xi­a­men, Fu­jian Prov­ince, China, ac­cord­ing to re­port by Xin­hua News Agency, the Chi­nese gov­ern­ment's mouth­piece.

At the fo­rum, the head of the Tai­wan- con­trolled ar­chi­pel­ago of Kin­men, sit­u­ated close to the coast of south­ern China, touted that his county has played a key role in the devel­op­ment of cross- strait ties thanks to its geo­graphic po­si­tion.

The prob­lems, such as wa­ter and elec­tric­ity sup­plies that are chal­leng­ing Kin­men, can only be tan­gi­bly re­solved through crossstrait co­op­er­a­tion, Chen was cited as say­ing in the Xin­hua re­port.
