In­vest­ment pledge by over­seas Tai­wanese firms ahead of tar­get

Over­seas Tai­wanese com­pa­nies com­mit­ted to in­vest NT$40.4 bil­lion in Tai­wan in the first five months of this year, reach­ing 76 per­cent of the tar­get fig­ure of NT$53.3 bil­lion for all of 2015, the Min­istry of Eco­nomic Af­fairs said Tues­day.

The pledged in­vest­ment in­cluded a plan by Everlight Elec­tron­ics Co. to build a new LED pack­ag­ing plant in Miaoli County. The com­pany is plan­ning to make the in­vest­ment in stages, with the pre­lim­i­nary in­vest­ment be­ing NT$10 bil­lion.

Shen­mao Tech­nol­ogy Inc., mean­while, is plan­ning to in­vest NT$4.5 bil­lion es­tab­lish­ing sev­eral ho­tels in Taoyuan and New Taipei, while the Yeong­guan Group is plan­ning to in­vest NT$3 bil­lion in a plant pro­duc­ing wind tur­bine parts in Taichung.

Jih Lin Tech­nol­ogy Co. com­mit­ted to in­vest NT$1.94 bil­lion to build an op­er­a­tion head­quar­ters and R&D fa­cil­ity in Kaoh­si­ung.

The min­istry re­leased the data in con­junc­tion with a fo­rum aimed at en­cour­ag­ing over­seas Tai­wanese com­pa­nies to in­vest in Tai­wan.

The event at­tracted 500 par­tic­i­pants, 77 of whom were over­seas Tai­wanese busi­ness­men. Some 42 per­cent of them are based in China, 13 per­cent are based in South­east Asia, and 13 per­cent are based in the
