Investment pledge by overseas Taiwanese firms ahead of target
Overseas Taiwanese companies committed to invest NT$40.4 billion in Taiwan in the first five months of this year, reaching 76 percent of the target figure of NT$53.3 billion for all of 2015, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Tuesday.
The pledged investment included a plan by Everlight Electronics Co. to build a new LED packaging plant in Miaoli County. The company is planning to make the investment in stages, with the preliminary investment being NT$10 billion.
Shenmao Technology Inc., meanwhile, is planning to invest NT$4.5 billion establishing several hotels in Taoyuan and New Taipei, while the Yeongguan Group is planning to invest NT$3 billion in a plant producing wind turbine parts in Taichung.
Jih Lin Technology Co. committed to invest NT$1.94 billion to build an operation headquarters and R&D facility in Kaohsiung.
The ministry released the data in conjunction with a forum aimed at encouraging overseas Taiwanese companies to invest in Taiwan.
