Bud­get car­rier and flight academy team up to train

Tig­erair Tai­wan ( ), a joint ven­ture be­tween Tai­wan’s China Air­lines ( ) and Sin­ga­pore’s Tiger Air­ways, said Thurs­day it is part­ner­ing with APEX Flight Academy to ob­tain train­ing for its cur­rent pilots and a sup­ply of flight crew in the fu­ture.

The academy’s train­ing base at Taitung (Fong Nien) Air­port in Eastern Tai­wan in­cludes a flight sim­u­la­tor, a weather sta­tion, and sin­gle and twin en­gine air­craft equipped with the latest avionics.

Un­der the part­ner­ship, pilots cur­rently em­ployed with Tig­erair Tai­wan will ob­tain train­ing at the flight academy, and other grad­u­ates will be given pri­or­ity when­ever the air­line is re­cruit­ing flight crew.

The ar­range­ment will help nur­ture lo­cal tal­ent and pre­vent over-re­liance on for­eign pilots, the air­line said.

At the mo­ment, al­most all Tai­wanese air­line pilots are trained in the United States or Aus­tralia.
