Budget carrier and flight academy team up to train
Tigerair Taiwan ( ), a joint venture between Taiwan’s China Airlines ( ) and Singapore’s Tiger Airways, said Thursday it is partnering with APEX Flight Academy to obtain training for its current pilots and a supply of flight crew in the future.
The academy’s training base at Taitung (Fong Nien) Airport in Eastern Taiwan includes a flight simulator, a weather station, and single and twin engine aircraft equipped with the latest avionics.
Under the partnership, pilots currently employed with Tigerair Taiwan will obtain training at the flight academy, and other graduates will be given priority whenever the airline is recruiting flight crew.
The arrangement will help nurture local talent and prevent over-reliance on foreign pilots, the airline said.
At the moment, almost all Taiwanese airline pilots are trained in the United States or Australia.
