Making a joyful

Taitung County Governor Justin Huang (黃健庭) gently sips tea from a mug that reads “God is my boss” as he patiently and confidently enumerates what Taitung County (臺東縣) has achieved and his ambitions to better develop the county. The mug seems to serve as a reminder that the decisions he makes don’t come from his personal interest but from the Lord he is serving as he serves the locals. Huang’s facial expressions look different compared to the interview we had last year, a heavier responsibility and concern seems to flow in his tones of speech.

Expanding the Successful

Taitung Experience

Being re-elected, Huang stressed that “the aim of my second term is to continue the successful Taitung experience and to further develop implemented measures from the last four years.” He plans to place emphasis on two major aspects in the four years to come. The first is to better develop Taitung in a quality way, and second to become an international city and allow more people to enjoy the fruitful developments.

“Within the last four years, it has been proven that the promotion of tourism is a successful strategy in improving Taitung. Taitung struggled in the margin of surviving in the past so all investors were welcomed with open arms, but we know that in order to become an international city, a balance between economic growth and environmental protection needs to be kept up,” explained Huang.

He added that nature is a precious asset and therefore creating a sustainable environment is essential. To achieve this, besides central government regulations, Taitung County also implements its own landscaping regulations.

Huang understands that not everyone senses a direct benefit from the economic growth brought by tourism promotion, therefore he plans to provide

County Governor Justin Huang (黃健庭) aims to expand past successful measures as well as providing a better quality of life for the locals.
