Pres­i­dent ap­proves pro­mo­tion of 29 gen­er­als: De­fense Min­istry

Pres­i­dent Ma Ying- jeou has ap­proved the pro­mo­tion of 29 se­nior mil­i­tary of­fi­cers to the ranks of ma­jor gen­eral, or on­es­tar gen­eral, and lieu­tenant gen­eral, or two- star gen­eral, the Min­istry of Na­tional De­fense ( MND) an­nounced yesterday.

Of the 29, seven will be pro­moted to the rank of lieu­tenant gen­eral; they are: Huang Kai-sen ( ), head of the Army’s Po­lit­i­cal War­fare Depart­ment, Chi­ang Chen-chung ( ), com­man­der of the Army’s Penghu Com­mand, Mo Yu-ming ( ), com­man­der of Matsu Com­mand, Chang Che-ping ( ) , head of the Air Force’s Po­lit­i­cal War­fare Depart­ment, as well as Hsu Chiling ( ) , Hu Ping- jen ( ) and Liu Te-chin ( ). They are listed un­der the MND, Coast Guard Ad­min­is­tra­tion ( CGA) and Na­tional Se­cu­rity Bureau ( NSB).

Another 22 peo­ple are to be pro­moted to the rank of ma­jor gen­eral, the MND said. They are from the MND, CGA, NSB as well as the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion ( MOE).

Among the newly pro­moted one star gen­er­als are Ma­jor Gen­eral Liu Wei- hsin ( ), com­man­der of the Army’s 542nd Brigade. Liu, 47, is the youngest gen­eral in ac­tive ser­vice in the R. O. C. Armed Forces.

Peng Yun- hua ( ) , chief of Tung­hai Univer­sity’s Mil­i­tary In­struc­tor Of­fice, is listed un­der the MOE.

The con­fer­ral cer­e­mony will be held to­mor­row in Taipei and will be presided over by Pres­i­dent Ma and De­fense Min­is­ter Kao Kuang- chi ( ) . The pro­mo­tions will of­fi­cially take ef­fect in July, MND of­fi­cials noted.

This will mark the sec­ond to last time that Ma has ap­proved the pro­mo­tion of se­nior mil­i­tary per­son­nel be­fore his term ex­pires next year.

Ma is ex­pected to ap­prove the pro­mo­tion of another wave of se­nior of­fi­cers this De­cem­ber.
