President approves promotion of 29 generals: Defense Ministry
President Ma Ying- jeou has approved the promotion of 29 senior military officers to the ranks of major general, or onestar general, and lieutenant general, or two- star general, the Ministry of National Defense ( MND) announced yesterday.
Of the 29, seven will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant general; they are: Huang Kai-sen ( ), head of the Army’s Political Warfare Department, Chiang Chen-chung ( ), commander of the Army’s Penghu Command, Mo Yu-ming ( ), commander of Matsu Command, Chang Che-ping ( ) , head of the Air Force’s Political Warfare Department, as well as Hsu Chiling ( ) , Hu Ping- jen ( ) and Liu Te-chin ( ). They are listed under the MND, Coast Guard Administration ( CGA) and National Security Bureau ( NSB).
Another 22 people are to be promoted to the rank of major general, the MND said. They are from the MND, CGA, NSB as well as the Ministry of Education ( MOE).
Among the newly promoted one star generals are Major General Liu Wei- hsin ( ), commander of the Army’s 542nd Brigade. Liu, 47, is the youngest general in active service in the R. O. C. Armed Forces.
Peng Yun- hua ( ) , chief of Tunghai University’s Military Instructor Office, is listed under the MOE.
The conferral ceremony will be held tomorrow in Taipei and will be presided over by President Ma and Defense Minister Kao Kuang- chi ( ) . The promotions will officially take effect in July, MND officials noted.
This will mark the second to last time that Ma has approved the promotion of senior military personnel before his term expires next year.
Ma is expected to approve the promotion of another wave of senior officers this December.
