EPA warns of excessive ultraviolet radiation level

The China Post - - LOCAL -

The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) on Friday warned the public to avoid outdoor activities due to excessive levels of ultraviolet rays amid clear skies and high temperatures.

The ultraviolet index across the island could reach 8, the agency said, explaining that a UV index of 8 or above is considered high, while a reading of 11 or higher is considered dangerous.

Friday’s weather conditions are a result of a strong Pacific high pressure system above Taiwan, which could send temperature highs to over 36 degrees Celsius in most regions, including the greater Taipei area, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
