Eason Chan, A-mei and Jolin Tsai win big at Golden Melody
Best Song of the Year awarded to ‘Island Sunrise Remixed,’ theme song of Sunflower Movement, defeating hopefuls Jolin Tsai and Jacky Cheung.
Hong Kong singer Eason Chan ) , Taiwanese divas A- mei ) and Jolin Tsai ( ) captured the biggest prizes at The 26th Golden Melody Awards, Taiwan’s equivalent of ( ( the Grammys, yesterday.
The ceremony at Taipei Arena was hosted by singer Harlem Yu ( ) , who sang his way into the venue, where he was joined Jolin Tsai for a dance.

Singer- songwriter Jacky Cheung (
) flew to Taiwan just before the event after an acting gig was called off last night. Cheung had said he would like to attend the Golden Melody Awards very much.
The event f eatured eight performances as A- list musicians took the stage, with Hong Kong’s prominent singer Eason Chan giving the first perfor- mance. Pop diva A- mei gave the last performance of the night.

Among the top honors awarded last night, Best Song of the Year went to “Island Sunrise Remixed” ( ) by Fire EX, defeating favorites “Play” by Jolin Tsai and “The Rest of Time” by Jacky Cheung. Other nomina- tions were “Missing” by Lala Hsu ( ) and “Faces of Paranoia” by A- mei.
The award- winning song is also known as the theme song of the Sunflower Movement, a student- led protest in March 2014.
Best Mandarin Album went to “Play” by Jolin Tsai, beating “Missing” by Lala Hsu, “Wake up Dreaming” by Jacky Cheung, “Rice & Shine” by Eason Chan, “Aiyo, Not Bad” by Jay Chou ( ), “Departures” by Karen Mok ( ).
Best Mandarin Male Singer went to Eason Chan, the second time the singer received the accolade. A- mei won the Best Mandarin Female Singer award.
Stars of the Chinese- language music world showed up in their glamorous gowns, glittering jewelry and snappy suits on the red carpet last night.
Taiwanese Mandopop king Jay Chou sported a black hat and suit jacket with golden floral embroidery.
Jolin Tsai dazzled with a glittering blue low- cut V- neck gown, while singer A- lin graced the red carpet in a white gown with colorful patterns.
Singer- songwriter Lala Hsu opted for a red gown, brown belt and glittering earrings.
