Ea­son Chan, A-mei and Jolin Tsai win big at Golden Melody

Best Song of the Year awarded to ‘Is­land Sunrise Remixed,’ theme song of Sun­flower Move­ment, de­feat­ing hope­fuls Jolin Tsai and Jacky Cheung.

Hong Kong singer Ea­son Chan ) , Tai­wanese di­vas A- mei ) and Jolin Tsai ( ) cap­tured the big­gest prizes at The 26th Golden Melody Awards, Tai­wan’s equiv­a­lent of ( ( the Gram­mys, yesterday.

The cer­e­mony at Taipei Arena was hosted by singer Har­lem Yu ( ) , who sang his way into the venue, where he was joined Jolin Tsai for a dance.

Singer- song­writer Jacky Cheung (

) flew to Tai­wan just be­fore the event af­ter an act­ing gig was called off last night. Cheung had said he would like to at­tend the Golden Melody Awards very much.

The event f ea­tured eight per­for­mances as A- list mu­si­cians took the stage, with Hong Kong’s prom­i­nent singer Ea­son Chan giv­ing the first per­for- mance. Pop diva A- mei gave the last per­for­mance of the night.

‘ Is­land Sunrise Re- mixed’

Took Best Song

Among the top hon­ors awarded last night, Best Song of the Year went to “Is­land Sunrise Remixed” ( ) by Fire EX, de­feat­ing fa­vorites “Play” by Jolin Tsai and “The Rest of Time” by Jacky Cheung. Other nom­ina- tions were “Miss­ing” by Lala Hsu ( ) and “Faces of Para­noia” by A- mei.

The award- win­ning song is also known as the theme song of the Sun­flower Move­ment, a stu­dent- led protest in March 2014.

Best Man­darin Al­bum went to “Play” by Jolin Tsai, beat­ing “Miss­ing” by Lala Hsu, “Wake up Dream­ing” by Jacky Cheung, “Rice & Shine” by Ea­son Chan, “Aiyo, Not Bad” by Jay Chou ( ), “De­par­tures” by Karen Mok ( ).

Best Man­darin Male Singer went to Ea­son Chan, the sec­ond time the singer re­ceived the ac­co­lade. A- mei won the Best Man­darin Fe­male Singer award.

Stars of the Chi­nese- lan­guage mu­sic world showed up in their glam­orous gowns, glit­ter­ing jew­elry and snappy suits on the red car­pet last night.

Tai­wanese Man­dopop king Jay Chou sported a black hat and suit jacket with golden flo­ral em­broi­dery.

Jolin Tsai daz­zled with a glit­ter­ing blue low- cut V- neck gown, while singer A- lin graced the red car­pet in a white gown with col­or­ful pat­terns.

Singer- song­writer Lala Hsu opted for a red gown, brown belt and glit­ter­ing ear­rings.
