Tropical Storm Soudelor moving toward the ROC
Tropical Storm Soudelor, which formed late Thursday near Guam, is picking up strength as it moves closer to Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau said Friday, but it said the storm will not threaten the country for the next week.
As of 8 a. m., Soudelor was centered 4,090 kilometers east-southeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip, moving at a speed of 13 km per hour in a westerly direction.
It is packing maximum sustained winds of 72 kph, with gusts reaching 101 kph, according to the bureau.
The storm is still too far away from Taiwan to determine its exact course when it gets closer to the Asian land mass, forecasters said, making it impossible to tell how much of an affect it will have on Taiwan at the moment.
