Gov’t to pro­mote mo­bile app safety cer­ti­fi­ca­tions

Tai­wan’s In­dus­trial De­vel­op­ment Bureau is sched­uled to be­gin pro­mot­ing app safety cer­ti­fi­ca­tion next week as part of ef­forts to help app users keep their in­for­ma­tion se­cure and to de­velop an app cer­ti­fi­ca­tion in­dus­try for the coun­try, Vice Premier Chang San-cheng said Mon­day.

This safety cer­ti­fi­ca­tion mech­a­nism will be the first of its kind in the world, Chang said at a pre­sen­ta­tion of train­ing cour­ses for peo­ple seek­ing to be­come mo­bile app and rel­e­vant soft­ware in­struc­tors.

The planned mech­a­nism will not be oblig­a­tory un­til a law gov­ern­ing its im­ple­men­ta­tion is drafted and passed by the Leg­isla­tive Yuan, Chang went on.

Prior to that, the mech­a­nism will be car­ried out in three stages, he said, not­ing that in the first stage, the In­dus­trial De­vel­op­ment Bureau will guide lo­cal qual­i­fied lab­o­ra­to­ries to set up app cer­ti­fi­ca­tion tech­nique de­part­ments, es­tab­lish a cer­ti­fi­ca­tion fee- charg­ing mech­a­nism, and de­velop a cer­ti­fi­ca­tion in­dus­try.
