Applications for the 2016-17 Chevening Scholarships, the United Kingdom’s global scholarship program, are now being accepted and open to Taiwanese, the British Office announced yesterday.

“The scholarships are awarded to outstanding established or emerging leaders to pursue one-year Master’s degree in any subject and at any of the UK’s leading universities,” the UK’s de facto embassy in Taiwan said in a released statement.

Funded by the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organizations, the program operates in 160 countries and territories worldwide.

This year the program will support over 1,500 individuals, it noted.

“The British government is proud to be able to support the development of tomorrow’s world leaders,”said British Office representative Chris Wood, in a statement.

“Each year, Chevening schol- arships are awarded to talented individuals who want to make a difference. I hope that Taiwan’s brightest and best will apply this year to join this global network,” he said.

According to the office, Taiwanese Chevening alumni have an excellent record of rising to positions of leadership across a wide range of fields including government, politics, business, media, civil society and academia.

Applications for Chevening Scholarships must be submitted online at www.chevening.org. The application deadline falls on Nov. 3.

Applicants should first take a look at the online information to make sure that they have met the Chevening selection criteria before submitting an application, it said.
