Grace THW’s chair W. Wong de­nies pur­chas­ing TV com­pany

Win­ston Wong ( ), chair­man of the Grace T.H.W. Group (

), de­nied buy­ing lo­cal ca­ble news net­work ETTV ( ) yesterday, ac­cord­ing to the com­pany.

Wong’s re­sponse came af­ter a re­port pub­lished by the United Evening News yesterday that said ma­jor share­hold­ers of ETTV de­cided to sell their shares of stock and con­tacted at least five po­ten­tial buy­ers in­clud­ing Wong and Hon Hai In­dus­try ( ) Chair­man Terry Gou ( ).

Wong and Lee Bau-jhu (

), who had four other chil­dren with late Formosa Plas­tics Group (FPG,

) founder Y.C. Wang, are se­cretly fight­ing for power in Tai­wan’s tele­vi­sion in­dus­try, ac­cord­ing to sources printed in the United Evening News (UEN). Wong is the son of Y.C. Wang and another woman.

In or­der to pre­vent Win­ston Wong from gain­ing an in­road in the tele­vi­sion in­dus­try, Lee and FPG chair­man Wil­liam Wong (

) bought con­trol­ling shares of Gala Tele­vi­sion Cor­po­ra­tion (

) in 2014, ac­cord­ing to sources in UEN.
