No sal­mo­nella found in the pop­u­lar Horng Ryen Jen sand­wiches : FDA

The Food and Drug Ad­min­is­tra­tion said Fri­day that tests on sand­wiches made by Tai­wanese brand Horng Ryen Jen ( ) did not have sal­mo­nella af­ter the com­pany’s sand­wiches left some peo­ple sick.

The FDA said the tests only showed Staphy­lo­coc­cus au­reuse, a bac­te­ria that is com­monly found in the en­vi­ron­ment but not gen­er­ally harm­ful to peo­ple.

The FDA con­ducted the tests af­ter Hong Kong author­i­ties banned peo­ple from bring­ing Horng Ryen Jen sand­wiches into the for­mer Bri­tish colony on Aug. 3 fol­low­ing re­ports that the sand­wiches had made peo­ple sick.

A to­tal of 84 peo­ple in Hong Kong had fallen
