Two peo­ple stabbed to death at Ikea store in Swe­den

Two peo­ple were stabbed to death at an Ikea store in the cen­tral Swedish town of Vasteras and a third per­son was wounded, po­lice said on Mon­day.

“Po­lice re­ceived a call about wounded peo­ple at Ikea ... around 1 p.m. A man and a woman with stab wounds were found at the scene, they later died of their in­juries. Another per­son is se­ri­ously in­jured. One man ha s been ar­rested sus­pected of mur­der,” a po­lice state­ment said.

The wounded per­son is a man aged around 35 who im­me­di­ately un­der­went surgery at a lo­cal hos­pi­tal, Eva Lin­dahl, a spokes­woman for the re­gional health care au­thor­ity, told AFP.

Po­lice dis­closed no other in­for­ma­tion about the iden­ti­ties of the at­tacker nor the vic­tims.

But lo­cal daily VLT, quot­ing the store man­ager, re­ported that the vic­tims were “or­di­nary shop­pers” and the at­tack took place in the store’s kitchen ac­ces­sories sec­tion.

Swedish tele­vi­sion broad­cast footage of the store which had been evac­u­ated and was sur­rounded by po­lice.
