Official in NY will pursue investment in N. America
Taiwan’s Deputy Economics Minister Cho Shih-chao ( ) began a one-week, three-city trip in the United States and Canada Sunday in New York in pursuit of investment in Taiwan.
Cho is heading a delegation comprising Taoyuan Deputy Mayor Wang Ming-te and representatives of 13 Taiwanese enterprises on the visit, which will take them to Montreal and Ottawa in addition to the Big Apple.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs hopes to lure more foreign investors to Taiwan, Cho said, explaining that choosing New York as the first stop on his visit is because the city is not just the U.S. center of finance but also a manufacturing and operational hub.
The chemical, semiconductor and machinery sectors in New York are among the best of their kind in the United States, he added.
As for Canada, which he described as a center of innovation, Cho said the country is strong in the industries of digital content, technical services and distribution.
Cho and his delegation is scheduled to leave for Canada Aug. 12 and will depart from Ottawa Aug. 17 for a flight back to Taiwan.
