Of­fi­cial in NY will pur­sue in­vest­ment in N. Amer­ica

Tai­wan’s Deputy Eco­nom­ics Min­is­ter Cho Shih-chao ( ) be­gan a one-week, three-city trip in the United States and Canada Sun­day in New York in pur­suit of in­vest­ment in Tai­wan.

Cho is head­ing a del­e­ga­tion com­pris­ing Taoyuan Deputy Mayor Wang Ming-te and rep­re­sen­ta­tives of 13 Tai­wanese en­ter­prises on the visit, which will take them to Mon­treal and Ot­tawa in ad­di­tion to the Big Ap­ple.

The Min­istry of Eco­nomic Af­fairs hopes to lure more for­eign in­vestors to Tai­wan, Cho said, ex­plain­ing that choos­ing New York as the first stop on his visit is be­cause the city is not just the U.S. cen­ter of fi­nance but also a man­u­fac­tur­ing and op­er­a­tional hub.

The chem­i­cal, semi­con­duc­tor and ma­chin­ery sec­tors in New York are among the best of their kind in the United States, he added.

As for Canada, which he de­scribed as a cen­ter of in­no­va­tion, Cho said the coun­try is strong in the in­dus­tries of dig­i­tal con­tent, tech­ni­cal ser­vices and dis­tri­bu­tion.

Cho and his del­e­ga­tion is sched­uled to leave for Canada Aug. 12 and will de­part from Ot­tawa Aug. 17 for a flight back to Tai­wan.
