2,006 schools damaged by Typhoon Soudelor: MOE
A total of 2,006 schools sustained damage when Typhoon Soudelor swept through Taiwan Aug. 8, according to Ministry of Education statistics released Tuesday.
The damage totaled NT$434 million (US$13.5 million) in value, most of which was incurred in New Taipei, to the tune of NT$66.51 million, followed by NT$62.22 million in Taichung and NT$54.97 million in Kaohsiung, the tallies show.
Three schools in Yilan County, New Taipei and Kaohsiung, respectively, remained closed Tuesday because of typhoon damage, the ministry said.
Taiwan was battered by torrential rain and strong wind caused by the typhoon Saturday. As of Tuesday, eight deaths had been reported, with four people missing and 420 injured across Taiwan, along with massive agricultural losses to an estimated value of nearly NT$2.3 billion.
