US sen­a­tor in Tai­wan to dis­cuss re­gional se­cu­rity

U.S. Sen­a­tor Tom Cot­ton is in Tai­wan on a four-day visit to meet with Tai­wanese of­fi­cials and dis­cuss such is­sues as re­gional se­cu­rity and trade, ac­cord­ing to the Amer­i­can In­sti­tute in Tai­wan.

Cot­ton, a Repub­li­can from Arkansas, serves on the Se­nate’ s Bank­ing Com­mit­tee, the In­tel­li­gence Com­mit­tee, and the Armed Ser­vices Com­mit­tee, where he chairs the Air Land Power Sub­com­mit­tee.

“Sen­a­tor Cot­ton will have a wide range of meet­ings with of­fi­cials in Tai­wan to dis­cuss is­sues of mu­tual in­ter­est to the United States and Tai­wan, in­clud­ing re­gional se­cu­rity and trade is­sues,” the AIT said in a state­ment late Tues­day.

The AIT rep­re­sents U.S. in­ter­ests in Tai­wan in the ab­sence of bi­lat­eral diplo­matic ties.
