Local acrobatics troupe is set to tour Southeast Asia
A Taiwanese acrobatics troupe is scheduled to embark Aug. 26 on a tour of Southeast Asia to promote cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the region, according to a Foreign Ministry official.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Vanessa Shih ( ) presented a national flag of the Republic of China to a representative of the Taiwan Acrobatics Troupe at a press conference held Wednesday to introduce the troupe.
The acrobats will perform in 10 cities in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, in which facechanging opera, or bian lian ( ), as well as other attractive acrobatics shows, will be demonstrated, according to the MOFA.
Shih said the ministry has found that acrobatic shows are very popular in Southeast Asia, which is why it arranged for the troupe to perform there.
The Taiwan Acrobatics Troupe, established in 1990, is currently the only professional group of its kind in Taiwan. It is famous internationally for its creative performances of traditional acrobatics.
The troupe will wrap up the tour Sept. 10.
