Taiwanese concert pianist performs in United States

Concert pianist Rueibin Chen (

), one of Taiwan’s best-known musical exports, performed July 25 at the Orange County Summer Music Festival in the United States.

Chen was invited as guest pianist to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor” and Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade,” with the Orange County Pacific Symphony at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater.

Music critic Timothy Mangan said in an article published in The Orange County Register that “the outer movements were on the fast and forward side, though flexible as need be, with Chen digging into phrases robustly. To the slow movement he brought a lovely sense of the weight of each note, as if they were fat raindrops falling gently in a pond.”
