Int’l social enterprise conference to launch, starting first in Tainan
The Ministry of Labor (MOL) will kick off an international conference in August to promote the development of social enterprises in Taiwan and inspire local businesses to innovate, the ministry said Monday.
The Social Enterprise International Conference will open Aug. 28 in Southern Taiwan’s Tainan. It will feature 25 talks by speakers from Taiwan and abroad, and will run until Oct. 24 in various cities around Taiwan.
Among the speakers are Elena Carmagnani, founder of OrtiAlti, which transforms flat roofs into planted green roofs, and De Pascale Fabio, co-founder and CEO of Devergy, an energy services company that provides affordable electricity to low- income people in developing countries.
Mike Curtin, CEO of DC Central Kitchen, which turns leftover and surplus food into thousands of meals for the hungry every day, and Namrata Bali, a representative of the Self Employed Women’s Association, a trade union that assists poor and selfemployed women workers in India, will also be among the speakers.
The talks will address social enterprise incubation and the themes of social impact, investment and innovation, with the hope that they will “improve the operation and expand the international perspectives of Taiwan’s social enterprises,” MOL said in a statement.
