Anti-bribery en­force­ment panel set up ahead of the 2016 gen­eral elec­tion

A joint law-en­force­ment task force was cre­ated in Taipei on Mon­day to pre­vent vote-buy­ing or other il­licit ac­tiv­i­ties in the city dur­ing cam­paign­ing for na­tional elec­tions in Jan­uary 2016.

The “Task Force to In­ves­ti­gate Elec­tion Bribery and Vi­o­lence” was jointly or­ga­nized by the Taipei Dis­trict Pros­e­cu­tors Of­fice, the Taipei of­fice of the In­ves­ti­ga­tion Bureau un­der the Min­istry of Jus­tice, and the Taipei City Po­lice Depart­ment.

In­te­grat­ing po­lice, pros­e­cu­tors and of­fi­cials in charge of civil ser­vice ethics, the panel will be de­ployed to in­ves­ti­gate al­leged vote­buy­ing ac­tiv­i­ties and pro­tect vot­ers and can­di­dates from threats of vi­o­lence, the Taipei Dis­trict Pros­e­cu­tors of­fice said in a state­ment.
