AUO, Innolux TV panel shipments drop in July
AU Optronics Corp. (AUO, ) and Innolux Corp. ( ), Taiwan’s largest two flat-panel makers, saw their TV panel shipments drop in July due to limited capacity and slow orders, a local research firm said Tuesday.
WitsView, a division of Taipeibased research firm TrendForce Corp., said global TV panel shipments totaled 22.31 million units in July, down 1 percent from the previous month but up 7 percent from a year earlier.
Among the world’s top six panel makers, Samsung Display Co. benefitted considerably from returning orders for Samsung TV sets, and its monthly shipments grew 28 percent as a result.
China’s BOE Technology and China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) posted 4 percent and 5 percent growth respectively in July, based on the expansion of their Gen-8.5 capacity, which led to higher shipments of their 32- inch, 48- inch, and 55- inch panels, WitsView said.
The other three top panel makers — LG Display Co., AUO and Innolux — have not increased their TV panel capacity and failed to gain additional orders from major clients, so their July shipments declined by 13 percent, 2 percent and 18 percent, respectively, from the previous month, according to WitsView.
