Health min­is­ter to speak at APEC meet­ing on health and econ­omy

Tai­wan’s health min­is­ter will lead a del­e­ga­tion to the fifth Asia- Pa­cific Eco­nomic Co­op­er­a­tion ( APEC) meet­ing on health and econ­omy, and will give a talk at the event to be held in the Philip­pines at the end of this month, an of­fi­cial said Thurs­day.

Min­is­ter of Health and Wel­fare Chi­ang Been- huang ( ) will talk about strength­en­ing health sys­tem man­age­ment dur­ing the High- Level Meet­ing on Health and the Econ­omy slated for Aug. 30- 31 in Cebu, said Michael Hsu ( ) , di­rec­tor- gen­eral of the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs’ Depart­ment of In­ter­na­tional Or­ga­ni­za­tions.

The min­is­ter will also share Tai­wan’s views on APEC mem­ber gov­ern­ments’ com­mit­ment to health is­sues, Hsu told re­porters at a news brief­ing.

Mean­while, Deputy Min­is­ter of Science and Tech­nol­ogy Chien Chungliang ( ) will de­liver a speech on the is­sue of healthcare in­no­va­tion, he added.

Not­ing that the theme of this year’s meet­ing is chart­ing a new course for tran­si­tion­ing health sys­tems and economies through in­clu­sive in­no­va­tion and multi- sec­toral col­lab­o­ra­tion, Hsu said Tai­wan will take this op­por­tu­nity to share its ex­pe­ri­ence in re­lated ar­eas and seek op­por­tu­ni­ties to co­op­er­ate with other APEC mem­bers in the fu­ture.
