Noted Taiwanese artist Shih Pao Lin said Tuesday that his touring exhibition of an ecofriendly model racing car will kick off November in Taipei with the aim of showing the world that Taiwan is an environmentally friendly country.

The eco-friendly Formula 1 model car was made from 20,000 recycled mobile phones that Lin collected from 40 countries.

The exhibition is scheduled to kick off Nov. 9 at Taipei City Hall and will run through Nov. 13.

Speaking at promotional press conference, Lin detailed how he collected the dumped cell phones in several countries, with the assistance of the United Statesbased Crystal Foundation, and used them to create a work of art.

“For me, every abandoned object is an artistic item, even those that are seen by others as trash,” Lin said. “I make useless things valuable.”
