Union edge Impact 1-0 in Drogba’s MLS debut
French forward Sebastien Le Toux scored the lone goal in the 78th minute to give the Philadelphia Union a 1-0 win over Montreal on Saturday night and spoil Didier Drogba’s Major League Soccer debut for the Impact.
Drogba, the former Chelsea and Ivory Coast star, went into the game to a standing ovation in the 59th minute, but was unable to provide the spark for Montreal.
Vancouver’s Cristian Techera scored in the 32nd minute to hand the Whitecaps a 1-0 victory home victory over FC Dallas.
Techera back- heeled in a pass from Kekuta Manneh while being crowded by goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez and defender JeVaughn Watson. The Uruguayan midfielder has three goals in three games.
In Columbus, Ohio, Jack McInerney scored the winner in the 88th minute of his home debut as the Columbus Crew beat Sporting Kansas City 3-2.
Marcel de Jong opened the scoring in the 14th minute for Sporting and Ethan Finlay answered for the Crew in the 35th.
Graham Zusi gave Sporting a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute, nut Tony Tchani equalized for the Crew in the 80th.
Michael Parkhurst sent a long ball to Federico Higuain, who forced goalkeeper Tim Melia to make a diving save that deflected to McInerney. The open tap-in was McInerney’s 37th career goal.
Real Salt Lake downed the Seattle Sounders 2-0 after Javier Morales and Sebastian Jaime scored early.
Morales opened the scoring in the 12th minute, converting from the spot after the Sounders’ Roman Torres was called for a hand ball in the area. Luke Mulholland’s 30-yard rocket off the crossbar in the 19th minute rebounded to Jaime, who headed it home.
Jozy Altidore scored twice and Sebastian Giovinco, Marky Delgado and Justin Morrow added goals in Toronto FC’s commanding 5-0 victory over Orlando City, while Chris Wondolowski scored his 12th goal of the season 4 minutes into the game as the San Jose Earthquakes beat Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United 2-0.
Colorado’s Dillon Serna scored 49 seconds into the match as the Rapids beat the Chicago Fire 1-0 to end a three-game losing streak.
