Kanye West to be hon­ored for achieve­ments at MTV awards

Mer­cu­rial hip-hop great Kanye West will be hon­ored for his ca­reer achieve­ments dur­ing the up­com­ing MTV Video Mu­sic Awards in Los An­ge­les, the or­ga­ni­za­tion an­nounced Tues­day.

The 38-year-old bound­ary-push­ing rap­per has pro­duced “ground- break­ing videos, leg­endary VMA per­for­mances” and has “de­liv­ered some­thing new with ev­ery suc­ces­sive video,” MTV said on their web­site.

West, who has been named as one of Time mag­a­zine’s 100 most in­flu­en­tial peo­ple, is ex­pected to re­lease his sev­enth al­bum “Swish” soon.

The al­bum is ex­pected to in­clude two al­ready re­leased hits — “Only One” and “All Day,” which was pro­duced in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Paul McCart­ney.

MTV’s Video Vanguard life­time achieve­ment award has pre­vi­ously been given to artists in­clud­ing Madonna, Michael Jack­son and Bey­once.

The rap­per is also in con­tention for best video with so­cial mes­sage for “One Man Can Change the World” with Big Sean and John Leg­end.

Mi­ley Cyrus will host the event that starts at 0100 GMT Mon­day. Tay­lor Swift leads nom­i­na­tions with nine, fol­lowed by Ed Sheeran with six.
