Rain forecast through till next Thursday, says CWB

The China Post - - LOCAL -

Rain is likely across Taiwan through next Thursday due to moisture-bearing winds from the southwest, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Friday.

The weather is expected to be most unstable from Saturday to Monday, with sudden downpours or thunderstorms expected islandwide, forecasters said.

During that period, there could be “extremely heavy rain” — defined as 200 mm of rain in a 24-hour period or 100 mm of rain in a three-hour time frame — the bureau said, especially urging people in central and southern Taiwan to be prepared for the downpours.

The weather may become milder in northern parts of the island starting Tuesday thanks to a growing Pacific high pressure system, where only showers or sporadic thunderstorms are likely, according to the bureau.
